NORTH, CENTRAL & SOUTH AMERICAN
NDB RECORDINGS:

On this page you will find recordings of some of my best 'Transatlantic' DX catches. Many of the earlier recordings were made on my old SPM-3 selective level meter, which had a very squeaky pitch of around 1500 Hz. Most of the later ones were made using an AOR7030+, with the BFO pitch set at a more comfortable 500 Hz, and in due course many of the earlier recording will be replaced with a recordings of the more listenable lower pitch.

2B 2B - SPRINGDALE NL, CANADA on 364 kHz (124kb): - Another 'regular' Canadian, which is often heard over here. This recording was made in February 2004.
CA CA - CARTWRIGHT NL, CANADA on 281 kHz (24kb): - This recording was made in August 2001. This is one of the more frequently heard Newfoundland beacons.
CLB CLB - CAROLINA BEACH, NC, USA on 216 kHz (71.4kb): - This recording was made on the 20th of October 2005. CLB is the only US NDB, which is regularly received here, but only during the early hours, when the European BC stations aren't using this channel.
DDP DDP - DORADO, PUERTO RICO on 391 kHz (48kb): - This one has been putting an excellent signal into the UK throughout much of January 2006, this recording made on the 29th shows this distant beacon at the strongest I've ever heard it. Distance to this one is approximately 6671 km, but it has a high power level for a NDB - believed to be around 4 kW.
E8 E8 - DAVIS INLET NL, CANADA on 492 kHz (34kb): - This recording was made in January 2006, and has been heard on a number of occasions recently. This is a relatively clear frequency, and that makes it easier to hear, even when the signals are weak. This one is 3,683 km west of here!
F9 F9 - MIRAMICHI/CHATHAM MB, CANADA on 520 kHz (42kb): - This recording was made on the 28th of February 2005 at 0200 utc. It was coming through like a local on this particular night, yet I've never heard it before. This one is 4,414 km west of here!
JC JC - RIGOLET NL, CANADA on 396 kHz (40kb): - This recording was made in August 2001. I've heard this Newfoundland beacon many times, but never at such strengths - it almost sounded like a local on this night despite being 3584 km west of here!
KIN KIN - KINGSTON, JAMAICA on 360 kHz (46kb): - This recording was made on the 17th of February 2006, when I heard this for the first time at 0425 utc. The distance to this one was 7,413 km, my furthest reception to date!
NA NA - NATASHQUAN, QC, CANADA on 385 kHz (40.4kb): - This beacon is probably closed now, but on this night the local 'WL' beacon was off air, and I was finally able to get a fairly clear recording of it. Pity conditions weren't too good that night! This recording was made on the 6th of March 2006 at 0403 utc
PPA PPA - PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC on 450 kHz (46kb): - This recording was made in January 2006, and you can hear the second character being miskey - it sounds like 'AS'. The distance to this one was 6,835 km from here.
VP V7B - KUUJJUAQ/KUJACK QC, CANADA on 390 kHz (104kb): - Another recording, this time made at 0219 utc on the 28th of December 2003. Usually only JT is heard on 390, but on this night it was absent and VP was coming in well instead!
VP VP - KUUJJUAQ/KUJACK QC, CANADA on 390 kHz (104kb): - Another recording, this time made at 0219 utc on the 28th of December 2003. Usually only JT is heard on 390, but on this night it was absent and VP was coming in well instead!
YHR YHR - CHEVERY QC, CANADA on 276 kHz (41kb): - This new recording replaces the original one, and was made on the 1st of February 2006, when its signal was heard here at the best strength I've ever heard it. The distance from this location is approximately 3834 kilometres, and this one is heard almost nightly here throughout much of the year!
YY YY - MONT JOLI QC, CANADA on 340 kHz (48kb): - This recording was made in January 2006, when local beacon HAW was off the air. This was the first time I'd ever been able to record this one in the clear! The distance from this location is approximately 4494 kilometres, and is yet another 'regular' visitor to this side of the pond.
ZIN ZIN - GREAT INAGUA, BAHAMAS on 376 kHz (53.3kb): - This recording was made during the spectacular opening of late October 2005, and was a rare catch from the UK. The distance from this location is approximately 6935 kilometres!
ZDX ZDX - ST JOHNS, ANTIGUA on 369 kHz (70.7kb): - This recording was made just a few minutes after ZIN, and shows just how good the propagation to the Caribbean area was around that time. With Dawn approaching, most of the signals to east had already faded out, leaving a nice quiet channel towards the west. Another rare catch from the UK, with the distance this time approximately 6493 kilometres!
